This text also acts as a useful bridge for more committed students of knowledge. Before studying a more detailed fiqh book, it is highly useful to have all the essential details clearly learned and understood. This way, the nuances of longer texts are more likely to be mastered. It contains the fundamentals of Tawheed and the essentials of Islamic monotheism, derived entirely from the Quran and the Sahih of the Sunna.

Al Aqidah though small in size, is a basic text for all times, listing what a Muslim must know and believe and inwardly comprehend. • Overview: A detailed explanation of the doctrinal and theological underpinnings of the Islamic faith and creed outlining the essentials of the profound Muslim understanding of the creator and His creation. The course is based on widely acclaimed and accepted 6th Century text in the subject by Imam al Nasafi.
      • Level: Beginners.

      Detailed Information:

Al ‘Allamah, Imaam Abu Hafs ‘Umar ibn Muhammad an-Nasafi (d. 537) was born in a town called Nasaf near Samarkand in Turkestan. He was a great Hanafi scholar and author of one hundred books, covering many sciences, but is most famous for his works on belief and a multi volume, tafsir (Quranic exegesis). Amongst his numerous titles are: the magnanimous Imam, Leader of the Muslim and Star of religion and nation.

He wrote a short, succinct and accurate summary of the authentic Muslim beliefs in his popular work, Aqaa ‘id an-Nasafi. This short treatise soon gained acceptance amongst the Ummah due to the fact that it was the most comprehensive and indeed complete summary on the subject of what the Muslim is to believe.

Some 25 commentaries have been written on it. One of the most popular was the commentary written by S’ ad ud-Din Taftazaani (d. 793 AH). Since then, it has been taught in Islamic schools and seminaries, including Jami Al Azhar, Eygpt and throughout the rest of the muslim world, especially in Central and Southern Asia.

The author compiled and enumerated some 59 points of belief, each one of them being established by a Qur’anic ayah or a sahih hadith. There is a consensus about all these fundamental beliefs mentioned in its’ pages by Ahl As-Sunnah Wal Jamaa’at and there is no disagreement about them.

Essentials of Seerah – (Based on Qadi Iyad’s Ash Shifa) Course Code: ESQ12

      • Teacher: TBC
      • Duration:
      • Start:
      • Venue: Islamic Centre, The Gallery.
      • Overview: For a thousand years this beautiful and majestic book has guided the Muslim community to a straight and balanced path in their beliefs and practices concerning the Messenger (salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa salam) inparticular, and the Message of Islam in general.
      • Level: Everyone.

      Detailed Information:

Qadi ‘Iyad is Iyad ibn Musa Ibn Iyad Imran, Abu al-Fadl alYahsabi, born in Sabta (present –day Ceuta, on the Strait of Gibraltar) in 476/1083. The Imam of Western Muslimdom in hadith and Arabic lexicology, he was gifted Maliki scholar and author who wrote a number of books in the sciences of hadith, Maliki jurisprudence, and history, through he is best remembered for his two-volume al-Shifa bi ta’rif huquq al-Mustafa [The cure, in outling the attributes of the Chosen One], universally acknowledged as among the finest works ever writtern on the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). He was appointed judge (qadi, hence his nickname) of Sabta, then Granada and finally Marrakesh.

The Shifa of Qadi 'Iyad is a definitive text on the
life of the Prophet Muhammad (salla Allahu 'alayhi
wa salam). For a thousand years this beautiful
and majestic book has guided the Muslim community
to a straight and balanced path in their beliefs
and practices concerning the Messenger (salla
Allahu'alayhi wa salam) inparticular, and the
      Message of Islam in general.
It is the most famous and probably the most beloved
book of Prophetic biography in the Muslm World.
While this work by Qadi 'Iyad discusses the life of
the Prophet Muhammad (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa salam)
in great detail, it is not a typical chronological
biography. Rather it is organized by subject in
order to provide extensive details on the Prophet
(salla Allahu 'alayhi wa salam), including his
various qualities, his appearance, his miracles,
his exalted position, his protection from error
and other aspects such as the necessity of loving
him and the benefits of asking for blessings upon
him (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa salam).

It’s also very useful because it discusses various issues about the Prophet (salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa salam) and thus clarifies what a Muslim should believe about him. In this age where many rationalist Muslim sects downplay the importance and status of the Prophet (salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa salam), this book is indispensable.
